Painting introduces a necessary slowness to my work.
A background in music and video informs how I think about structure in time, where form emerges through duration. The material resistance of painting makes gradual changes perceptible in a way that more immediate, time-based processes do not. The wandering eye across the surface of the canvas as a result as well as the starting point of the process connects with nature-inspired themes, deeply rooted in observation.
I keep coming back to the sky because it never quite repeats itself. A sight seems familiar, and then it has already shifted. That instability is what holds my attention.
